Revving
up the throttle at traffic lights is what kids do. You, on the other
hand, crave for something a bit more exciting, a lot more challenging.
How about driving as high as anyone possibly can?
Yes,
in Ladakh, you can. The Khardung La Pass, at an elevation of 5621m
above sea level is the highest motorable road anywhere in the world.
And that will only be one of the high points of a journey through
high-altitude deserts, snow-covered peaks and towering mountain passes.
You will be covering over a 1000km of untamed terrain—in fact about
half of the circuit is virtually unpaved roads—at altitudes ranging
from 2600m to 4400m. There will be no stop lights and no traffic
snarls—though you can expect to come across some yaks trundling down
'their' roads. And yes, most definitely, there will be no road
rage—that just might have to do with the calm and pristine nature that
will surround you. Or maybe it's the presence of the tranquil Buddhist
monasteries. This circuit will be open only from May to September.
